Weeds

As with the rest of mainland New Zealand Tane's Rest is hosting a wide range of introduced mammals that are all having an influence on both the natural environment and the native flora and fauna.

We have recorded what we have learnt about these introduced mammals and have grouped them either as predators or herbivores. We have not included farmed livestock, although they too can have environmental impacts, especially horses that happily strip bark from any tree they can reach.

It is unlikely that we are hosting any of the tiny bats that are native to New Zealand, as we do not have many of the large forest trees they prefer to roost in. However, we will certainly keep an open mind about this and will remain vigilant.
